It was October 4, 2016, our third morning in Barcelona and we finally got up in time to enjoy the breakfast in the main dining room. The jet lag was dissipating. The breakfast was great and considering everything, our stay in the Grand Marina had been pretty darn good. The service there was good, the location was next to where the cruise ships docked and our room was very comfy. The only negative is that our room did not have a view, we looked into the courtyard.
Today was the day we would transition to the cruise ship. As usual Mrs. Gym took charge because she has always been in charge of transitions. Mrs. Gym is a certified professional packer and as such, Gym let her do her thing and was thankful for it. Gym had a few minutes to go up to the roof to see if our ship had arrived. And it had.
We checked out at about 10:30 am and grabbed a cab to transport us and our luggage the short distance to where the MS Sirena was docked. As you might imagine, we were there first in line and were amongst the first passengers to board the ship. Our voyage of discovery was about to begin.
Over the next three days we would make three stops in Spain and have the opportunity to see some really fantastic places. After leaving Spain we would stop at Madeira, Portugal before beginning the transatlantic crossing. That evening we sailed out of Barcelona and started westward on our voyage of discovery.
Christopher Columbus spent time in each of the places we would visit. He also had a very historic meeting where our voyage began. Barcelona is where Colombus met with Ferdinand and Isabella after completing has first voyage to the New World to give them his report on his findings and lobby for the capital to make what would be three more voyages there and back.
Much more on Columbus coming up.
I'm sorry my blog posts aren't current. I have actually been doing real work that has taken precedence over the blog. I like blogging better but c'est la vie, I will attempt to catch up, when time permits.
